Friday Playgroup: August 3, 2007

I’ve been reading some of the stories in the news lately about infant deaths with tears streaming down my face. Coincidentally, I visited Thingamababy today to find he’s been on a safety-kick: after taking A Look at Three Child Car Heat Death Safety Devices Thingamababy updates us about tragic Baby-in-Car Heat Death News. He also shares information about Hands-on Education: Shaken Baby Syndrome Simulator. These horrible deaths are entirely preventable and it is up to us as parents to demand better education and products so that no baby has to die these avoidable deaths. (Thingamababy)

Actress McKellar: Smarts, looks add up This makes you wonder why Britney, Lindsey, Paris and Nicole are all so screwed up when a child star like Danica is so down-to-earth. Personally, I think it comes down to parenting. I know Danica’s parents. They always stressed the importance of giving back to the community, being kind to others, and the value of intellectual pursuits. I’m convinced they’re why Danica and her sister Crystal turned out to be such great role models for young women. (Yahoo News)

The Nine- A True Life Challenge I like her attitude. Anyone else in for losing 9 pounds by August 9th? (The Mummy Chronicles)

Duggar’s Welcome 17th Child And I thought Angelina Jolie was wacky for saying she wanted thirteen or fourteen kids. Maybe she’s just trying to compete with the Duggars?

It’s so sad about those accidents involving children. Hopefully, parents will become more aware of such situations and participate with those safety programs.
