Alter-Eco Fair Trade Foods Giveaway

Posted by Mamanista on Apr 14, 2008 | 392 Comments

Alter-Eco Fair Trade FoodsWe enjoyed telling you about the decadent taste, but entirely virtuous production, of Alter-Eco’s Fair Trade Chocolates.

Now we are very excited that Alter-Eco is offering a Fair Trade Foods gift basket to one of our readers.

Companies like Alter-Eco are demonstrating that eco-chic is also health-conscious and people and community-friendly, too!

Alter-Eco Fair Trade FoodsAll these foods are produced using sustainable methods. Organic fertilizers save money, are better for the earth, and protect the consumer from dangerous toxins. Many of these great products, like quinoa, are nutrient rich and tasty health food staples. And, because they are 100% Fair Trade certified, the farmers get a fair price and can invest in community developments.  You can even learn more about the specific cooperative that grows your favorite product.

With Alter-Eco, you know you are making a conscious choice for a healthier you, a more just world, and a safer planet–and that is truly delicious.

WANT IT: Alter-Eco Fair Trade Foods are available online and at select gourmet grocers.

WIN IT: Alter-Eco is offering one lucky Mamanista reader a gift basket of some of their fair trade foods, including coffee, quinoa, rice, sugar, and teas (approximately $40 value). US or Canadian shipping addresses only for this contest.
To enter:

  1. Browse Alter-Eco’s selection of fair trade foods and learn more about fair trade.
  2. Leave us a comment by Monday, April 21, 8 PM EST letting us know which product you would most like to try or something you learned about fair trade from Alter-Eco’s site.

I had not stopped to think about the fact that, “Natural fertilizers are used for economic reasons, but also because it is a way of ensuring the good health of producers and the land they work.” I had thought of how environmentally responsible it was, but how it benefits the workers’ health is definitely something that should be taken into consideration.

    Red Quinoa – Organic

Quinoa is an ancient cereal grain that grows in the Andes Mountains of South America. Locally referred to as the ‘mother grain’ and as a ‘protein powerhouse’, quinoa is nutritionally charged and is considered one of the best sources of protein.

I have just started trying the white. I cook it then add fresh basil, shallot, and cilantro. Maybe a touch of black pepper.

Would love to try red to taste the difference.

Outsourcing jobs to poor countries so companies don’t have to pay their workers much at all is so sad it breaks my heart. I totally support fairtrade.

Fair Trade makes it possible for farmers to earn a living wage.

Not only are farmers paid fairly but they are given grants during the growing season to help them survive until harvest time.

Farmers are also taught sustainable growing practices that are good for the environment.
