Back to Preschool

Back to Preschool

When I was little, I used to think my big brother was the coolest person on the planet. While I sat at home, he got to go to school like a big boy. I used to admire his backpack, his pencils, his crayons….anything related to school. And I would pester him to “play school” with me when he got home. To a toddler, a backpack is an exciting thing– even if they have nothing to carry around. You can … Read entire article »

Green That Works

Green That Works

Green cleaning products are better for the environment and safer for your children, but many moms still prefer traditional (and toxic) cleaning products for two major reasons: cost and convenience. Unless you wanted to order cleaning products online or had a Whole Foods-type store in your area, it used be hard to find good natural cleaning products. And it used to be the case that green cleaning products cost more than the alternatives. I’ll admit that I … Read entire article »

How to Find a Good Babysitter

Kids across the country head back to school next week. I don’t have a school-aged child, but I do have a teenage mother’s helper who comes a few days a week to help with the baby. So “Back to School” meant I needed to find a new babysitter.  While I’m fortunate to live close to my mother who can babysit occasionally for free, many grandmas today have jobs, volunteer work and busy lives. Even if you are lucky enough to live near your family, you might not be able to rely on them for all of your daily childcare needs. I started my search for a trustworthy babysitter in early August, and I was able to find a wonderful, experienced babysitter who loves kids. Here are my top tips on finding a good babysitter: 1) Use your … Read entire article »

Children’s Clothing as Sweet as Candy

Children’s Clothing as Sweet as Candy

Shopping at Coco Bonbons I feel like, well, a kid in a candy store. This is unique, quality children’s clothing of the kind my grandmothers used to lovingly purchase–stylish but with a whimsical touch. Coco Bonbons has released its Fall Collection for Girls and Boys and it is just absolutely darling.  For Girls, I love the Paisley line, with its amethyst tones, asymmetrical hemlines, and flower appliques. Crocheted lace and satin ribbon add the right feminine details. Another … Read entire article »

Go on a High-Tech Treasure Hunt with Your Kids

Looking for something fun and educational to do with your kids? Check out Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game for people who love the outdoors, exercise and technology. Think of it as an Easter Egg Hunt that requires a handheld GPS device. There are hundreds of thousands of treasures (called geocaches) hidden around the country in urban, suburban and rural locations. A typical geocache is a small waterproof container with a logbook and some small trinkets/toys. When you find the treasure, you can sign the logbook and take photos. But if you take the trinket, follow the rules by replacing it with one of your own.   To get started, go to www.geocaching.comand enter your zip code. You’ll see a list of geocaches nearby along with notes about the difficulty and the terrain. If you’re trying geocaching with your kids, you’ll probably … Read entire article »
