How I’m Fighting the Frump

Posted by Mamanista on Aug 4, 2008 | 2 Comments

I’m addicted the Fussypant’s Fight the Frump columns– even Oprah got into the frump-fighting act. I often suffer from what Fussy calls “Baby Woke Up at 5am Hair.” After a long night, my frizzy hair gets pulled into a haphazard ponytail.

Want a sense of how bad this looks? After a recent haircut, I ran into an acquaintance in the supermarket. And she didn’t even recognize me since my hair was down and straightened.

When I said hello, she said “I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you. You look so good today.” Um…Ouch! At that moment, I realized it was time for me to follow Fussy’s advice and “Fight the Frump.”

I’d always been frustrated by how hard it was to replicate salon styles at home. Stylists always used a flat iron on my hair, but I didn’t have a good experience with a flat iron when I’d tried one at home. The $19 flat iron I bought at CVS took minutes to heat up and snagged my hair. I was able to straighten my hair using a blow dryer and a brush, but it took so long. After the baby, I just didn’t have enough time to spend on my hair.

Lucky me…I recently had a chance to test the FHI Heat Platform SE, which was voted the favorite flat iron in July 2008 by American Salon Magazine readers in the second annual Professional Choice Awards. I love it! This flat iron heats up in seconds and enabled me to straighten my hair and banish my frumpy frizz in just a few minutes.

I was impressed by how easily the iron glided through my hair. The FHI Heat iron’s smooth ceramic tourmaline plates have snag-proof rounded corners and beveled edges, so you can use the flat iron to curl your hair or flip your ends under too.

The FHI Heat Platform SE Iron is pretty high tech. According to the FHI Heat website, this flat iron “features the largest quantity of crushed tourmaline crystals which results in the highest negative ion count; and it employs proprietary Nano-Fuzeion™ technology, which is a unique combination of Nano-Titanium, Nano-Titanium Oxide and Nano-Silver particles. Together, the triple function of the Nano-Fuzeion™ technology removes bacteria, toxins and static, producing superior conditioning and shine, while providing unmatched health and purification benefits for the hair.” I’m not entirely sure what any of that means, but this product lives up to its hype. My hair looks glossy, shiny and perfectly straight after I use this flat iron. Even better, my hairstyle will last all day…and sometimes even overnight.

Want It:

The FHI Heat Platform SE is available in a 1-inch size and retails for $195.00. You can buy it online at www.fhiheat.com

My only concern is that the price will keep many moms from trying this flat iron. It’s a big splurge. But if your budget allows it, I’d certainly recommend this flat iron.

Too pricey for you? Check back in the fall when we publish our beauty guide for a chance to win a FHI Heat Platform SE flat iron.
