Help For Dust Allergy Sufferers

Posted by Debbie on Oct 10, 2008 | Comment

I have bad dust allergies. Spending time in a dirty, dusty house makes my eyes water and itch and gives me a sinus headache.  I keep my house clean, but dust allergies are a problem in even the cleanest house.

Allergists recommend using dust mite barrier pillow cases and mattress covers, and these can be a big help. But some of their other recommendations are harder to implement without making your home feel sterile. For example, allergists often suggest that you remove all carpets and get rid of items like stuffed animals that are dust collectors.

So I was happy to get a review sample of the new Clorox Anywhere Anti-Allergen Fabric Spray from my friends at MomCentral. This fragrance and dye-free spray is safe on most fabrics (except fabrics prone to water spotting like leather, wool, silk and mohair) and can help neutralize allergens like dust mites or cat dander in upholstery, carpets, curtains, and stuffed animals.

According to Clorox, the spray chemically breaks apart the allergen proteins and changes their structure so they don’t cause allergies. I tested this product and felt an improvement in my allergy symptoms. I wish Clorox made a travel size version of this product since it would be great to use on pillows, mattresses and bedspreads in hotel rooms to eliminate dust mite allergens.
