Win A K’NEX Sesame Street Building Set

Posted by Debbie on Oct 1, 2008 | 158 Comments

Award-winning children’s toy maker K’NEX just introduced Sesame Street-Themed Building Sets for children ages two years and older- the youngest audience yet for a K’NEX toy!

These new sets were designed to provide an easier building experience for young children. With just a little help, my 2 1/2 year old product tester had no problem manipulating the different K’NEX rods, connectors and blocks to build a custom-version of Cookie Monster.

According to K’NEX, construction toys and blocks support the development of hand-eye coordination, encourage imaginative play and give children the opportunity to practice problem-solving.

With Elmo, Cookie Monster, Ernie and Oscar the Grouch Sets available for $10.99, your little ones will have a ball building their favorite characters. With just 14-15 pieces, these sets are easy for young pre-schoolers to build and a perfect introduction to building blocks. For a bigger challenge, try the 46 part Elmo’s World or Bert & Ernie building sets ($21.99) or the 80 piece Cookie Monster & Hooper’s Store building set ($31.99).

Want It:
These sets are available online at Knex.com and at Amazon.com and in-store at your local toy store.

Win It:
For a chance to win a K’NEX Sesame Street Building Set, leave a comment on this post by 11:59pmEST on October 8, 2008 telling us either your favorite K’NEX Product or your fondest Sesame Street Memory.

I LOVED Sesame Street growing up. And I love when my girls watch it. I like how Sesame Street responds to things that are happening, to help kids understand. They did a storm episode after Katrina (I think), and everyone helped Big Bird rebuild his nest.

I love Elmo! Oh. And so does my son (blush).
My fondest recollection of these guys was awhile ago , okay a LONG while ago when I took my now eldest son to see Sesame Street Live! As parents, we were hyped! As a three year old, he had no idea what was going on!
Much to our delight, Elmo came waltzing down the aisle and out of everyone there(!) picked OUR SON to go onstage with him. We were sure that this was our sons fifteen minutes of fame. The only problem was that no amount of coaxing, cajoling or bribing would get Dylan to go onstage. He was terrified and Elmo ran off.
That’s my favorite memory for sure!

I can’t see Ernie without thinking about my brother. He LOVED Ernie. He learned to read by memorizing the book “Ernie’s Big Mess” – my parents had to buy multiple copies because he read it so much. He was Ernie for Halloween one year (including a huge orange head). And most memorably, our mom made Ernie and Bert dolls for him. Ernie was SO loved (until he was bald and threadbare) that Mom had to make another one.

  • Jennifer Richard said:

I was on the fence as to whether or not to take my 20 month old to see the “When Elmo Grows Up” this weekend. He loves all the characters on Sesame Street so much but is he ready for a full blown show? Well, he quickly answered my question when a commercial for the show came on and he squealed with delight. He made me rewind and play the commercial about 20 times. I quickly called for tickets after that. My Sesame Street memories have always been fond but I think they are even better watching them through my son.

My fondest memory was a Little Golden book, that my mother read to me, it was called.
There is a Monster at the end of the book (or something like that).

I was so excited when I found this book at the store, and was able to share a childhood favorite with my son.

It was about Grover and he didn’t want you to turn the page because he was afraid of the monster at the end. I had to have been young when this book was read to me, but I remember, not wanting to scare Grover, and asking my mom not to turn the page, and then the relieve that I felt when the monster turned out to be…. wait I can’t spoil it for you, you will just have to read it yourself. http://www.amazon.com/Monster-this-Book-Little-Golden/dp/037582913X/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223415965&sr=8-1

My Mom used to sing me “The Count’s Lullaby” before I went to sleep. Which included all of the scary things, but it was done in a sweet way. Some of the lyrics were:

Count the footsteps up the stairs,
Count the creaking of the chairs,
Count the clouds that fill the sky,
Keep on counting, don’t ask why.

Go to sleep, my spider dear,
While you’re dreaming I’ll be near.
There’s a full moon in the sky
    Shining on my lullaby.

Even though the lyrics were scary, the song was so beautiful, with pretty music that I would never get frightened. I’m 27 now, and I still remember my mother singing that to me and I will sing it to my children.

  • Cody Marc said:

K’nex has been a savior to my kid’s self-esteem. From his possible ADHD like his biological father, at last I found something that could keep his attention for longer than 6 minutes. This has progressively gotten longer, as the K’nex collection has also gotten bigger. The kid was picked for the robotics team at school, further boosting the self-confidence, and “can do” attitude to anything so far.

    Thanks K’nex!

Can’t comment on Sesame Street, except from a DVD. No T.V. in this house. The kid learned “gomen kudasai” from watching Big Bird in Japan, and uses it when visiting or calling out to the neighbor from Tokyo.

Kid K’Nex are FABULOUS!!! They have been a constant fixture in my house since 2001 when I got my first set for my then 2 year old son. The sturdiness of the pieces ar great. Pieces are big enough that they can’t get lost and the plastic isn’t the type where it hurts when you step on them! They even make great teether rings for the littlest babies.

And Sesame Street. Well besides growing up with it and loving all of the characters, my love for it got notched up a little the first time my son asked to watch “Sessie Street.” Enough said!
