In part, I like the Oreck Halo because my grandmother and mother owned Orecks which lasted for many years with no problems. I hope my Halo will be as durable. Jason- The Oreck is louder than the Dyson. However, I found the noise level to be comparable to other vacuums I've tested from Bissell and Eureka. Since I have bad dust allergies, I'll gladly use the Oreck Halo regardless of the sound. I've never tested one, but I've heard from friends that Electrolux makes a very quiet vacuum cleaner.
