If it looks like a duck, and pushes like a duck…

plantoysduckWe’re fans of the Plan Toys philosophy of making quality play things that are  healthy for kids, contribute to our communities, and are good for the planet.

Plan Toys has a knack for creating fresh twists on classic toys that promote children’s physical, emotional, and intellectual development.  We love their simply delightful, clever, and stylish takes on wooden push and pull toys, like the new Plan Toys Push-a-Long Duck.

Made from sustainable rubberwood and non-toxic dyes in fair trade facilities, this is another toy that will last through several siblings and generations of play.  When a beginning walker pushes the duck, the toy rewards the toddler’s efforts with a waddle and a squeak.  And the tactile feel of real wood encourages exploration.

The sound is more of a baby duck’s peep than an adult’s quack, but this adorable flapping duck keeps my 1 year-old entertained.  And even his big sister, age 3, wants to join in the fun.

Push toys help develop gross motor skills and the sound teaches cause and effect, giving a growing toddler a sense of confidence.  We love seeing my son’s sheer delight as he pushes this duck from Plan Toys around the house.

WANT IT: Push-a-Long Duck ($32 from Baby Earth or Land of Nod)

WIN IT: Plan Toys is giving away a Push-a-Long Duck to one Mamanista reader.

I’ve already got a Plan Toy picked out to give each of my two kids for Christmas. My nearly 1-year-old son will love the Hammer Balls, and I think it will be one that he will continue to enjoy through several phases of development. My daughter loves helping me in the kitchen, so I will get her the Fruit and Vegetable Play Set so she can cut alongside me, since that’s one cooking activity I won’t let her help with.
