Fab Find: Tuffo Waterproof Outdoor Blanket

Summer means days at the beach, picnics, playdates at the park and outdoor concerts and fireworks displays. Unless you enjoy sitting on the grass, it’s helpful to have a blanket handy. The folks at Vat19 sent me a Tuffo Outdoor Waterproof Blanket to review.

The top cover is soft enough for a baby, and the cushioned-blanket is big enough to accommodate a family of four. The waterproof nylon underside keeps you dry even when the ground is wet. It’s easy to wipe the bottom clean with a damp cloth after use. If you prefer, just toss the blanket into the laundry for a thorough wash.

Tests have shown that there are more germs on household floor surfaces than on toilet seats, kitchen counters and bathroom tiles combined. While exposure to some germs may help build children’s immune systems, allergens like mold, dust mites are a leading trigger of allergy and asthma systems in both children and adults.
Regular vacuums alone– even those with HEPA filters– can’t kill the dust mites. Since carpet can contain as many as 100,000 dust mites per square yard, allergists often suggest ripping out carpets. But who wants to live and play …

Do your allergies get worse when you’re cleaning or when you go to bed? Do you wake up in the morning with a sinus headache and stuffy nose? If so, you probably are allergic to dust mites.
I’m allergic to dust mites, so I do my best to keep my house clean and free of dust. Since my symptoms were always the worst in the morning, I wasn’t surprised to learn that allergen-infested mattresses and pillows were the problem. Apparently, it’s been estimated that two million dust mites can thrive in an unprotected mattress. Eeew!
Since …

I’ve been looking for a hard floor cleaner for as long as I’ve had hard floors. Typical upright vacuums don’t work because they are designed around a rotating brush to funnel debris towards a single suction point. If you put the spinning brush on a wood floor it just throws debris all over. If you stop the brush, the vacuum doesn’t pick up dirt across its entire width.
Canister vacuums with hard floor attachments are better, but they often have brushes both in front and in back that are just as …

Now that all your presents are unwrapped, give yourself a big present: get organized in 2009!
Keep Track of Your To-Do List:I’m a busy mama, and I keep track of all my appointments, playdates, volunteer commitments and work projects using the 2009 BusyBodyBook Personal & Family Organizer. As a type-A person who actually enjoys organizing things, I’ve tried lots of calendars and planners over the years.
I first discovered the BusyBodyBook in 2007. Its 5 column grid design has made it my favorite. Plus, you can tell it was designed by a mom since Saturday and Sunday have …

Shopping for dad can be difficult. Many men view gifts of clothing much the way women view receiving small kitchen appliances and cleaning supplies as presents– way too utilitarian. Practical gifts are useful, but they are not exciting.
But who wants to waste money on frivolous things in this economy? Seriously….how many office toys and other useless junk does dad really need?
For a gift both exciting and practical, consider a Home Depot gift card.  My husband’s eyes light up when he walks into Home Depot. Walking through their aisles gets him thinking about all of the possible …
