Shark has a clever new vacuum that shines on both carpets and wood floors. The Shark Rocket Powerhead (I received model AH452 to review) is a light and compact vacuum. The brush, motor, filters, and dirt collection are all in the module that rolls on the floor. The stalk and handle really just serve as a place to wrap the power cord and fit the power switch, as well as a holster … Read entire article »

Matt Bershadker, President and CEO of the ASPCA, and Sarah Hyland, actress, vegetarian, and animal rights activist spoke this week about the importance of matching pets with families. The real stars of the day, though, were Barkley Bixby, Hyland’s adorable maltipoo, and his canine pals. As part of their campaign to help the ASPCA find homes for over 5000 pets during their Mega Match-a-Thon weekend, Swiffer invited me and my pets to surprise a friend with … Read entire article »

“The house is clean, mom, who’s coming over?” Anyone who knows me understands I am not much of a housekeeper. Sure, I could blame it on the three kids and two cats but to be honest, cleaning was never one of my talents. In fact, my husband picks up a lot of the slack in this department but he is away a lot for work and I do work from home. So, when I don’t have … Read entire article »

With Earth Day around the corner, I have been taking stock of how green my family is and how we can do more. Sure we recycle, turn off lights when leaving a room, buy local and organic food and make car trips succinct but what else can we do? One idea I had was to reduce the amount of water we use needlessly. Summer is approaching and we typically tend to wash our cars ourselves and … Read entire article »

Many of us grew up thawing frozen meat on the counter and keeping leftovers far too long. Times have changed. Now that I’m a mom, I make an effort to serve my family only food that I’m sure is safe. The USDA has food safety recommendations to help us keep our families safe from the unfortunate side affects of unsafe food preparation (such as food poisoning). But it isn’t always easy to know what is safe? For … Read entire article »

During my first pregnancy, I daydreamed about peaceful days spent strolling through the park or rocking a sleeping infant in my arms. While I love being a mom, my life is more chaotic than I’d envisioned. I have two young boys and work full-time outside the home. The competing demands of children and clients mean that I’m juggling all sorts of tasks from a never ending to-do list. Since my priority is finding time to spend with my boys without neglecting my responsibilities to my clients, I wind up “dropping the ball” on some tasks. The first sacrifice I made as a working mother was sleep. I’ve decided that I would rather have an extra hour or two of playtime with my boys than sleep. 4 hours is typical. 6 hours feels like … Read entire article »

As a mom to two little boys, I deal with a lot of messes. Boys are stain magnets. Between the grass stains and mud stains from a day on the playground or a muddy soccer game and the ketchup stains from summer barbecue parties, it is tough keeping their clothing looking like new. Using hand-me down clothing saves money, so I’m hoping my youngest will be able to wear his older brother’s clothing. But I don’t … Read entire article »

My little boys are high energy; they zoom from one activity to the next without stopping for a breath. My older son loves soccer, which is a wonderful way to keep active, but terrible for keeping his clothes clean. Everything winds up with a grass or mud stain. The clothes that manage to escape the mud and grass get stained at lunch! Removing grass stains without fading the clothing is a big task, which is why … Read entire article »

I was challenged to use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to tackle a large cleaning project around my home. I’ve already successfully used Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to clean my children’s bath toys and stuffed animals as well as to freshen our diaper pail and deodorize our refrigerator. I’ve also tested Arm & Hammer’s Spinbrush and Whitening Toothpaste. I don’t particularly enjoy large cleaning projects, but I do enjoy eating outside and playing with my kids … Read entire article »

Summer is my favorite season. My kids love swimming, playing and dining outside. Aside from battling pesky mosquitoes during our evening meals, our biggest outdoor challenge is finding a way to clean patio furniture and grimy pool toys. Arm & Hammer has challenged me to use their baking soda to ease some of my outside cleaning pain. Knowing how versatile and effective baking soda is when I’m cleaning my bathroom and kitchen, I’m optimistic about using it … Read entire article »
