STEM STEM STEM: That’s all we’ve been hearing lately. It’s everywhere. The New York Times, The Huffington Post. On CNN. On The Today Show. Being that it’s all around us, we as Moms should know what it is automatically, right? WRONG. I polled a group of Mommy friends and while they all nodded enthusiastically “YEP […]
If you’re a classic toy lover like me, you may already be familiar with the iconic Ambi® brand, the manufacturer of infant and toddler toys with a fabulously retro design and feel. In years past, only a few items were available in the US for purchase. Now, the ENTIRE 44 piece Ambi collection is available in the US, […]
Getting my son to do his homework, particularly math, is like pulling teeth. Sound familiar? He rushes through just to get it done and move on to something more fun. Nickelodeon recently launched a great new educational math app, Team Umizoomi: Math Racer, inspired by the first preschool series to focus entirely on math, Team […]

All thoughts and opinions are my own.* My boys got a little bit of an early Christmas present from one of our favorite toy brands, PlanToys! We received the Activity Clock and the Frog Life Puzzle which were both […]
I recently had the opportunity to work with Leap Frog on their new LeapReader Reading and Writing System. While I am not a teacher, I work really hard with my son on his homework, reading and math skills and try to engage his interests (whether its plants and gardening or race cars!). The LeapReader “Ready, […]

Little girls adore the Disney Princesses, and I was no exception. I have so many fond memories of watching Disney movies with my mom. In fact, when I found out I was having a boy, I actually remembering thinking that it was a shame I wouldn’t be able to share my love of Disney with him. Now I’m a mom to two boys, and I’ve discovered that Disney has just as much to offer boys as girls.
My son adores Lightning McQueen and the CARS characters as well as Woody and Buzz from Toy Story. He loves adventure, and his favorite TV show is Disney Junior’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates.
Jake and the Never Land Pirates is the #1 cable series for Boys 2-5 and on track to be the Disney Channel’s #1 preschool series ever.
Kids love tracing. My daughter will set there filling page after page, tracing numbers and letters. In an attempt to save a few trees, I got her a dry-erase book for copying her letters and numbers. Which works pretty well until she forgets to clean it or the pen dries out or her baby brother gets ahold of the marker and tries to eat it.
Even better? The LeapFrog Scribble & Write…
I received a review sample of the Thomas and Friends Great Race Game several months ago. I finally had a chance to test it on a rainy afternoon when a friend and her children visited. Her 3 year-old and her 5 year-old played happily for several hours.
Calendars and schedules are such an integral part of adult life, but understanding concepts like days of the week, months of the year and the seasons can be difficult for young children. Without a strong understanding of how the calendar works, it can be tough for a preschooler to understand concepts like exactly how long daddy will be away on a business trip or when his class is visiting the zoo.
Your kids will learn calendar skills at preschool or kindergarten, but you can give them a headstart with the “My Week” calendar from 2fishkids.
