Freedom’s Just Another Word for Toddler

Posted by Candace on Aug 7, 2008 | 224 Comments

Janis Joplin Toddler T-Shirt DressSandbox Threads captures the carefree spirit of kids everywhere.  The designs bring a retro graphic sensibility to hip baby onesies, and clever toddler, and children’s t-shirts. And now they’ve added tank dresses to their options!

When the Stay-at-Home-Dad owner of Sandbox Threads created his first tee, there were few options beyond the usual, traditional baby clothes.  Today, Sandbox Threads still stands out among other designers of clever and funny baby and toddler clothing by moving beyond plain sayings and puns in text and offering funky, artistic styles.

Even the most jaded hipster parent will get a laugh from the funny cheeky monkey designs, the witty toddler truisms, and activist t-shirts for babies and kids.

Once you pick out a design, you can also pick out the color of the tee and sleeve length from a number of choices.  And they’ve managed to keep their prices lower than most other shops ($18 for most designs)–so you don’t have to spend a lot of cash to look cool.

My toddler and baby on the way just received cool designs from the Famous Faces selection. Why settle for licensed characters when your child can sport a true cultural icon?  My daughter rocks out in this toddler-sized, hot pink Janis Joplin tank dress.  For Junior, we have one of Daddy’s Favorites, a portrait of The Blues Brothers on a fresh, bright green t-shirt.

Who knows if our children will share our fashion sense–but in the meantime, we get to dress them.

I cannot help but respond to Deb.

We each raise our children using our own set of beliefs and values. We introduce them to our religion, our hobbies, our favorite team and our likes and dislikes. And for some, like myself, I do not believe it is ever to early to begin instilling values that I believe are important. You may see this as – my child as billboard. I see this as – my child as an extension of my own views.

Does he understand what his “political” shirt really means? No. But I do, and I will raise him to understand.

Also, is it any better to dress them in shirts featuring corporate logos or cartoon characters made in sweatshops? I’d venture to say this might be a bigger grievance than his mama being for Obama.

By the way, with a name like mine, I’ll go with Audrey Hepburn as my choice.
