I’m allergic to dust mites, so I do my best to keep my house clean and free of dust. Since my symptoms were always the worst in the morning, I wasn’t surprised to learn that allergen-infested mattresses and pillows were the problem. Apparently, it’s been estimated that two million dust mites can thrive in an unprotected mattress. Eeew!
Since I’d written previously about my dust allergies, Protect-A-Bed sent me a mattress encasement and pillow protector to review. Eager to make my bedroom an allergy-free zone, I was excited to try the products.
Protect-A-Bed’s mattress protectors ($79.99 for Queen-Sized) are fitted-sheet style covers that place an impenetrable barrier between you and allergens. They are made of natural cotton toweling over polyurethane film that provides a waterproof, stainproof, yet breathable barrier between you and your mattress. For chronic allergy sufferers like me, Protect-A-Bed offers full mattress encasements ($119.99 for Queen-Sized) for mattresses and box springs. The Protect-A-Bed Pillow Protectors ($19.99) provide a breathable, waterproof, stainproof barrier against allergens.
I’ve been using the products now for over a month, and I’ve seen an improvement in my allergies. I no longer wake up every morning with a stuffy nose and a sinus headache. I only wish I’d known about Protect-A-Bed during my pregnancy when I couldn’t take my allergy medicines.
