“The Help” Prize Pack Giveaway!

In February of 2009, I wrote a praise-filled book review on Kathryn Stockett’s The Help. You can read it here.

When I heard that Dreamworks was turning the book into a film, I couldn’t wait to see what they were going to do with it. This past weekend at BlogHer, I was given the opportunity to see the film in advance. Based on how much I enjoyed the book, I was weary of how well it would translate to film. But I must say, I found it to be incredibly inspiring, hopeful, and tactfully acted by the entire cast. I’d encourage you all to both read the book and see the movie.

As Dreamworks says…

“Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon,  “The Help” stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s,  who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with thecourage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times. Deeply moving, filled with poignancy, humor and hope, “The Help” is a timeless and universal story about the ability to create change.”

In honor of the film coming out tomorrow, Mamanista is hosting a Dreamworks-sponsored The Help prize-pack giveaway! The pack includes

THE HELP t-shirt in adult female sizes of S, M, L, XL
THE HELP pocket jotter & pen
THE HELP nail file/mirror

To enter for the giveaway, comment below with your favorite line from the book or movie by August 25th.

I thought it gave a good insight to her humor when she wrote “She already got the blue dress on I ironed this morning. The one with the 65 pleats on the waist, so skinny I got to squint through my glasses to see iron. I don’t hate much in life but that dress and me is NOT on good terms”

I don’t know what kvetch means but I think it must be good.

A great line which I enjoyed. From the book.

  3. Joy says:

I like the line the mother said, “Great, you can write my obituary…. Daughter still single” Maybe every single adult whose parents wants them married can relate to the hounding. But to think they were too.

I also liked the ending but we’ll leave that out.

    My favorite line…

“You is kind, you is smart, you is important.”

  5. Tammy Allgood-Hemmerling says:

“I brought us some Co-Colas if you want one.” I think I like this line because it reminds me of my great grandmother who is from Kentucky. She always called coke Co-colas! She’s passed away now and when I read that line, it brought her right back to me!

  6. Heather Andre says:

Wasn’t that the point of the book? For woment to realize,
We are just two people, not that much separates us. Not nearly as much as I’d thought.

  7. Betty says:

It tugged at my heart how she soothed that baby with “You is kind, you is smart, you is important” Every baby deserves to have someone lovingly imprinting that into their memories.

  8. I think that everything said made a lot of sense. But, what about this? what if you added a little content? I am not saying your content is not good., but suppose you added a title that makes people desire more? I mean The Help Movie Review & Contest | Mamanista! is kinda boring. You should peek at Yahoo’s home page and see how they write post titles to grab people interested. You might try adding a video or a picture or two to grab people excited about what you’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it might make your blog a little bit more interesting.

  9. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one today..

I’m just happier for the work and as well , hope that you really know what a great job you’re carrying out educating some other people using your webpage. Most likely you have never got to know all of us.
