Although I do not exercise as much as I should, we’re an active family. Almost every nice weekend finds us walking the local trails with our kids. We get moving for the health benefits and the fun learning opportunities we find out in nature. And all of our friends know that good footwear is a must when hanging out with my husband.
A predisposition towards back pain, three pregnancies, weight gain, and maybe a fondness in my younger days for very high heels have put a bit of stress on my spine, however.
So, I was eager to check out Ahnu footwear’s Numentum Technology. Whether you walk, hike, or run, Ahnu has active footwear designed to promote “an efficient, stable and balanced stride.”
The idea is that well-designed shoes can keep us steady during fitness activities, preventing injury and helping to undo some of the damage we have done to our bodies through bad habits.
Trying out the Ahnu shoes, I immediately noticed difference. I do feel more balanced and stable and there is a “bounce” to my step. In some ways, it feels a little awkward since I am used to a more flat, though less “biometrically” correct, stride. I’m sure I will be doing a lot of walking with my growing family this summer and I am eager to give the shoes an extended trial to see if my feet and back hold up better on our longer hikes. And hopefully this will help inspire me to lose the “baby weight”!
Ahnu believes strongly in personal fitness and charitable giving. So, through the end of May they are supporting a Breast Cancer prevention initiative. For each pair of women’s Numentum™ performance shoes sold in April and May 2011, the brand will donate $5 to the Breast Cancer Fund, the leading organization working to identify and eliminate the environmental causes of breast cancer. The initiative takes place in more than 150 doors nationwide, and online at OnlineShoes.com
Ahnu has already contributed more than $20,000 to the Breast Cancer Fund and expects to donate a total of $30,000 before the end of 2011.
